Bhardwaj, whose repertoire includes truly-fine works like Maqbool, Omkara, and Haider delivers, but not entirely. Some frames just hang, some scenes feel tedious. In his attempt to pack in too much on war, love and deceit, the maker ends up with some haphazard division of war scenes versus love games, leaving the viewer muddled.

The intention of Vishal Bharadwaj’s ambitiously mounted film is clear: to weave the skeins of love and war in order to make a movie full of throbbing passion and grand statements. But the execution never quite matches up, the gap narrowing in just a few places, in the second half.

Frankly, RANGOON is a complex film and it does take time to dissolve oneself wholly in the world of Rusi, Julia and Nawab. Thankfully, there’s much meat in the second half. The myriad emotions [love, jealousy, betrayal], the sequence of events in the second half, the nail-biting finale. On the whole, RANGOON is an epic love saga with strong emotional quotient, riveting second hour and nail-biting finale. Watch it for its layered plot, serpentine twists, proficient storytelling and bravura performances. A content-driven film that’s worth a recommendation!

It’s an ambitious film where Bhardwaj wants to merge two worlds: One inspired from Shakespearean tragedies and other motivated by the valiant lovers of the Indian cinema. In the end, neither comes alive on screen – on top of it a messy climax that topples whatever hard work was done building a world of romance.

If you are a Vishal Bhardwaj fan, let us warn you that this might not be his best, but we bet you’ll see another kind of a storyteller here. And yes, he does deliver a movie that is embedded with fine performances from the cast and great visuals by cinematographer Pankaj Kumar and that makes the movie deserving of a watch despite its flaws.

Rangoon haunts in unlikely fashion and, while the director’s most straightforward picture, holds enough of its own marvels to justify multiple viewings. Like a song-and-dance troupe trampling all over a map of Europe to tell their own fractured, misguided jokes, or an old man cosily swilling wine after having faked his own death, Rangoon may be direct, but it is never obvious. As the credits used to say back in the day at the close of a spectacular film, ‘Remember, it’s a Vishal Bhardwaj creation.’

Rangoon Review: A Smart Epic Love Saga Presented By Vishal and Shahid, Saif and Kangana’s Tremendous Performances

Director: Vishal Bhardwaj

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut

Ratings: 3.5/5 ★★★½☆

Vishal Bhardwaj presented another eye catching moving which was impress everyone. The story of the film of World War II where the dark irony is that Indians were killing Indians because some of these soldiers fought for the British army against Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army in Rangoon. Vishal Bhardwaj uses World War II template and also shown the love triangle between Saif-Kangana-Shahid. The trailer already gave us a peek of some intensely passionate moments between Shahid and Kangana. The duo even gets dirty in the middle of mud. Too hot to handle, isn’t it! Yes, there is even Saif to complete the love triangle in the film.

Script filled with lots of eye catching history and story that entwines conflict, deceit, politics and history. The film shows visually stuning but some movements it’s *not* merely body beautiful. Vishal narrated the story smoothly and camera work was good and impressed us. Rangoon talks of matters of the heart, relationships, love blossoming amidst guns and thorns. Content-driven film that’s truly engaging that’s makes movie must watched.

The film has created huge buzz before its release and trailer received decent response from audience. Watch it for its layered plot, serpentine twists, skilful and proficient direction and bravura performances. The performance of actors was phenomenal and all actors puts their potential in the film. Making a period film isn’t a cakewalk. One needs to pay extra attention to the fine detailing to maintain the authenticity of the period in which the story is based. Going by the first glimpse of the trailer, director Vishal Bhardwaj has managed to tick off all the boxes in the checklist and we are left mighty impressed!

Saif Ali Khan was good and he worked excellence in the film, after brilliant performance in Omkara director Vishal casted Saif in the love triangle.

Shahid, well Shahid is dynamic and scene stealer in the movie. Shahid Kapoor is one of the young talents who are striking a perfect balance between content-driven films and commercial potboilers. People who thought of him as a chocolate-boy hero at the initial years of his career were in for a huge surprise when he displayed his acting prowess in films like Kaminey, Haider and Udta Punjab.

Kangana Ranaut, the actress was outstanding and she is like supporting pillar for the movie. Kangana continually prove herself as the Queen of Bollywood industry. Looks like yet another award-winning performance by Kangana Ranaut is in store. She is at her feisty best and her character seems to be loosely inspired by Fearless Nadia, actress and a stuntwoman who was one of India’s first female lead and Noor Inayat Khan, the spy who worked for the Allied forces during World War II.

After composing a superb score and directing a brilliant movie like Haider, Vishal Bhardwaj is back doing what he does best – composing songs and making great movies. This time, he goes for a World War II romance, a fave Hollywood genre. After composing a superb score and directingIf you are someone who has a refined taste in music, the music of Rangoon may certainly appeal to you, as Vishal Bhardwaj does full justice to the era in which the movie is based.

But it is not as brilliant as VB’s score for Haider, which I still love to listen to every time I am hooked on to my playlist. It may also not find takers among people who look for popular music, save for Bloody Hell and Yeh Ishq Hai.a brilliant movie like Haider, Vishal Bhardwaj is back doing what he does best – composing songs and making great movies. This time, he goes for a World War II romance, a fave Hollywood genre
